A Colombian Vegan Cafe In Redfield & Greek Bakes For Keynsham

Los Dos Gringos Opens On Church Road: Los Dos Gringos have opened their first permanent cafe on Church Road in Redfield, in the old Crafty Egg unit. Suzanna and Tom spent four years living in Colombia, then brought it home as a mobile cafe at markets and food fairs. Now it's a proper plant-based spot, with a Colombian-inspired street food menu alongside ethically sourced Colombian coffee and chocolate, smoothies and beers. There are no bookings. It's open seven days a week, 7am to 7pm.

BakeALicious Heads To Keynsham: BakeALicious, the Greek bakery and cafe on Royal York Crescent in Clifton, is opening in Keynsham on Saturday 7th November. Expect Greek treats and good coffee, and they've promised a special treat for anyone who comes along on opening day. More details are still to come.

Upcoming Food Events

Wagyu For £20, Comfort Food On North Street & Cookbook Talks At Clifton Lit Fest

Gin With The Distiller (30th Oct): Milk Thistle, Bristol's original speakeasy, is back, and it's marking Halloween with two very different nights on Friday 30th October. For the drinkers, the Spirit of Bristol's distiller Pete is hosting an exclusive tasting of his award-winning gins. Or there's The House of Spirits, a darkly decadent evening of cocktails, tarot readings and the Invisible Circus. Spaces are limited for both.

Duck Birria Tacos And Soft Serve (31st Oct): Holt's are teaming up with Soft Buoys over the Halloween weekend, and they're calling it the collaboration of the year. The star is Holt's signature confit duck leg birria taco with a grape and chipotle hot sauce. There's an oyster mushroom version for vegans and veggies. Expect stringy cheese and cold beers, with soft serve to finish.

Wine In The Ski Lodge (6th Nov): Racks Bar & Kitchen is opening up its Ski Lodge for a wine tasting on Friday 6th November, 5pm to 9pm. They've teamed up with Matthew Clark Bibendum to pour five selected wines, with a live music set alongside.

Wagyu For £20 At Flat Iron (10th Nov): Flat Iron's Carcass Club makes its final stop of the year in Bristol on Tuesday 10th November, from 5pm. They're serving an F2 Wagyu steer, 75% Wagyu, from their own herd in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. You get the Wagyu with a generous portion of beef-dripping chips and sauce Choron for £20. Wagyu at that price is hard to argue with. It's walk-ins only, first come first served, so get there early.

Comfort Food At Flour House (12th Nov): Flour House is putting on its first evening event at its North Street site on Thursday 12th November. It's a "Comfort Food" set menu for £40. It opens with a blood orange sorbet cocktail, then French onion soup with a Comté crisp and glazed heritage carrots with Bramley apple purée. The main is a lion's mane steak with creamy polenta and béarnaise. Pudding is a Tirami-choux bun, which might be the best pun of the autumn.

Cookbook Talks At Clifton Lit Fest (14th Nov - 15th Nov): Clifton Lit Fest runs from 13th to 15th November, and two of its events are for the cooks. On Saturday 14th, 10.30am to 11.30am, Bristol food writer Jenny Chandler gives a talk and cooking demo from her new book, The Capsule Kitchen, with tasters. On Sunday 15th, 12pm to 1pm, she's in conversation with Brin Pirathapan about his cookbook Elevate. Both are at Clifton Library.
