Bristol Bites: Food influencer ‘Beccaeatingthings’ shares her go-to Asian spots in the city
Bristol local and full-time foodie Beccaeatingthings has built a dedicated Instagram following of over 5,000 followers sharing her experiences of the best places to eat in the city. Today, she’s sharing her top five must-visit Asian restaurants.

Izakaya: Named for the style of traditional Japanese bar, Izakaya nails the balance between relaxed atmosphere and exceptional food. Their sashimi and barra-don are consistently fresh and flavour-packed, with rotating specials to keep you coming back again and again. Whatever you order, don’t skip the Takoyaki - crispy on the outside with a melt in the mouth middle – and the perfect partner to an ice-cold sake.

Sambol: A newcomer to East Street, I had the pleasure of visiting Sambol in their opening week, and was blown away by their bold, complex flavours and beautifully crafted Sri-Lankan inspired dishes. Try the Smoked Goat Curry, which is served with a date and lime chutney so luxurious I could eat it by the spoonful. Add a side of their smokey aubergine pickle and you’ve got a truly perfect accompaniment to any dish.

Rock Salt: If you’ve ever found yourself torn between Indian and Chinese, Rock Salt is your answer. Their menu offers a blend of Indo-Chinese cuisine guaranteed to please any crowd, and executes it flawlessly. Highlights include the Prawn Chettinad, which is stunning in presentation and flavours, and the Prawn Crystal Dumplings, generously filled and wrapped in a perfectly thin and chewy rice wrapper. A spot where style and substance work together in harmony.

Pocha: Bristol doesn’t have many places to go for Korean food spots, but Pocha makes up for it with a solid menu covering all the classics and more. Think Korean Army Stew, Tteokbokki, and Japchae – it’s an ideal introduction for anyone interested in exploring Korean cuisine. Their Bibimbap is my go-to when cravings hit, and it never disappoints.

Lonely Mouth: I would love to gatekeep Lonely Mouth, but it’s far too good not to share. Their Japanese breakfast sets were genuinely game-changing, incredibly delicious and yet so light and clean-tasting that I don’t feel guilty for also ordering the French Toast – which comes with a slice of brioche toast so thick it almost doesn’t absorb the mountains of matcha cream and berry compote smothered on top. Stay into the evening and you might be lucky enough to catch a DJ set whilst enjoying a cocktail and a bite to eat from their evening small plates menu, which is definitely the next place to try on my date night hit-list.
