Jamaican Cooking At Lakota, A Passage Street Coffee Launch & Cow & Sow’s New Farm Shop
Lakota Launches Its First Kitchen: Lakota on Upper York Street has launched Sister Gee's, its first in-house food brand in a nearly 35 year history. It takes its lead from traditional Jamaican recipes and hospitality, and landed during Jamaican Independence Week as a nod to the founding family's heritage. Rice and peas arancini, a jerk burger and Guinness Punch ice cream are all on the menu. Thursday's launch party had reggae, dominoes and ludo to go with it. After several successful pilot events it's now a permanent fixture.
Passage Street Coffee Spot Opens: Fenix Coffee soft launched over the weekend and the crowd spilled out onto Passage Street. It's from couple Charlie Chung and Tiff Chan, who between them have pulled shots at Full Court Press, Society Cafe and Dareshack. Launch blends came from Dark Arts and Taith, and you can buy bags of both alongside chocolates from Ruby Hue. Expect cold brew and filter through to matcha lattes, with croissants, cookies and pastel de natas on the counter. Sourdough shokupan twists from Yelah Bakery land on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
Cow & Sow Open A Farm Shop: Premium steakhouse brand Cow & Sow are turning a former pub site in Flax Bourton into The Field. It's a farm shop and kitchen on an acre of land just outside Bristol, opening in the autumn. The shop gets daily deliveries of home-grown produce, fresh bread and butchery. The 70 seater cafe does hearty breakfasts and lunches with coffee from Clifton Coffee Roasters, plus outdoor decking for when the weather plays along. Cookery school spaces are planned for later.

Coal-Cooked Feasts, 100,000 Chicken Wings & A Bank Holiday BBQ
A Night Cooked Over Coals (27th August): BANK's Pecking Order night returns on Thursday 27th August, built around char and barbecue flavours cooked straight over coals. Expect returning favourites plus a few new additions inspired by the warmer weather. No ticket needed, just book a table and order off the menu. Best shared with friends, as they put it.
Bank Holiday BBQ In The Garden (29th August): The Greyhound are firing up the grill from midday on Saturday 29th August for one last big summer session. Expect BBQ favourites and cold pints in the garden all afternoon, with folk and rockabilly from some of the South West's finest. John Lewis is on the bill and a daytime act is still to be confirmed.
100,000 Wings On FeederRoad (4th Sept - 6th Sept): Wing Fest takes over The Prospect Building on Feeder Road with 100,000 wings served by 18 street food traders, restaurants and BBQ teams. There are four sessions across the weekend. Friday evening is £21.45 and the three Saturday and Sunday sessions are £25.85, booking fee included. Every ticket comes with a Wing Fest trucker hat, and there are games, bands, DJs, eating competitions and live entertainment throughout. Both evening sessions are over 18s only, so go daytime if the kids are coming.
A Cookbook Dinner At Sonny Stores (8th Sept): Sonny Stores are hosting Claire Thompson of 5 O'Clock Apron for an evening celebrating family cooking folklore, on Tuesday 8th September at 7pm. It's built around her new book Dear Grace, and there are 26 spaces for a Claire Thompson x Sonny Stores curated menu. Claire eats alongside guests and talks through what inspired it. A copy of the book is included in the ticket price. Tickets are via the link in their bio.
Fifty Seats At One Long Table (13th Sept): Cotto Wine Bar & Kitchen and Pasta Ripiena are finally getting chefs Brendan, Jacob and Dylan together for a collaboration. The menu is rooted in cucina povera, the Italian “peasant kitchen” tradition of turning the humblest ingredients into something properly delicious. It's 50 people on one long table outside, at 1pm on Sunday 13th September at Cotto & Pasta Ripiena on St Stephen's Street. Tickets are £50 a head, and the rustic menu means vegetarian is the only dietary they can work around. Email [email protected] to grab a seat before it sells out.
