2026's Most Anticipated Openings, Hairy bikers’ Visit Clifton & Bristol’s Pub of the Year 2025
Anna Cake Couture Feature: If you caught The Hairy Bikers Go West on BBC Two recently, you’ll have seen Clifton’s own Anna Cake Couture hosting Dave and Si. The duo stopped by to sample what many of us already know are the best "proper chunky cookies" in the city. It’s a massive nod for the team, and you can catch the full Bristol episode on iPlayer if you need some midweek food inspiration.
2026 Food Openings Preview: Bristol24/7 has dropped a massive list of what’s coming next year, and it’s looking fantastic. Keep an eye out for Yakiniku, a Japanese barbecue spot taking over the old Co-op on College Green serving up wagyu beef, sushi and Japanese whiskies. Farro is looking to expand its footprint next to its current home (cheers to shorter queues!), and Brother Thai is finally bringing its legendary street food to a permanent site in Stokes Croft. Other highlights include Amorino gelato on Queen’s Road and The Colombian Company moving into North Street.
Bristol’s Pub of the Year 2025: The people have spoken, and the Rose and Crown on Two Mile Hill has been crowned Bristol Live’s Pub of the Year 2025. Beating out 49 other finalists, this Kingswood gem is run by Christopher Williams, who have rescued the building from near-ruin. It’s already famous for serving the city’s best Sunday roast, but the community vibe and modern refurb make it well worth the trip.
The Yard at No.8 Opening: The boys from Pig’s Pizzas are finally opening their own bricks-and-mortar spot in Thornbury. By day, it’ll be a speciality coffee shop and bakery serving fresh sandwiches; by night, it transforms into a pizzeria and bar. Expect juicy IPAs, cocktails, and high-quality sourdough bases.
Pasture’s Sustainablity Award: High praise for Pasture, which has just secured a three-star 'Food Made Good' rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association. From growing their own veg at Buttercliffe Farm to running on 100% green energy and turning veg trimmings into "Trimchi," they are setting the gold standard for sustainable dining in the city centre.
Upcoming Food Events
Festive Beers, Bristol Indie’s Giveaway, and Market Respite
Bruhaha Christmas Eve (Dec 24th): If you're looking for a proper festive pour, head down to the Totterdown brewpub. The star of the show is their Christmas Cake Porter, a suitably dark and festive collaboration with Somer Valley Brewing that’s only on tap for a little longer. They’ll also have mulled cider to warm the bones while Break Out Voices community choir provides the soundtrack with a carol performance at 4:30pm.
The Ultimate Bristol Christmas Giveaway (Dec 26th): This is a big one. CJ Hole has teamed up with KASK, Aqua, Ruby Hue, Can’t Dance Coffee, and Fire & Ice Wellness for a massive hamper giveaway. Prizes include wine tastings, chocolate gift boxes, and a year of free coffee. The deadline to enter is Friday at 4pm via Instagram - it’s a great way to support a handful of local indies in one go.
Crimbo Limbo Market (Dec 28th): Don't let the post-Christmas slump get you down! The Tobacco Factory Sunday Market is keeping the festive spirit alive with a special 'Crimbo Limbo' edition. It’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house, blow away the cobwebs, and treat yourself to some of the city's best street food. Expect a proper party atmosphere with Gurt Wings, Ah-Ma’s Dumplings, The Roti Shack, and The Crumporium all serving up hot, fresh delights. Whether you're after a spicy kick or a sweet treat, it's the ultimate way to recharge before the New Year celebrations begin!
Fine Diner! COR x Danny's Burgers collaboration (Jan 26th): This one is a bit further out but worth mentioning because tickets for the first night sold out in just 12 minutes. Executive Chef Vyck Colsell is teaming up with Danny’s Burgers for a high-end "Fine Diner" tasting menu. It’s set to be a "loud and unhinged" night of canele smash burgers and hip-hop classics. Keep your eyes peeled for a potential second date announcement.
Local Highlight
Anna Cake Couture
It’s hard to ignore the buzz around Anna Cake Couture this week. Nestled away in Clifton Village, this isn’t your average bakery. While the national fame has come from the Hairy Bikers' visit, locals have long treated this as the go-to spot for anything from a quick coffee-and-cookie fix to elaborate, fashion-forward celebration cakes.
The "Couture" in the name isn't just for show; the precision in their macarons and the sheer scale of their cookies make it a standout. If you're visiting for the first time, the caramelised white chocolate cookie - which the Hairy Bikers marked as a top pick during their visit - is a must-try. With the new year approaching, it’s the perfect spot to squirrel away in their minimalist, chic cafe and watch the world go by with a proper treat.
A Final Note for 2025🎄
This is our last edition of the year, and what a year it's been for Bristol's food scene. From the heartbreak of high-profile closures to the excitement of award wins for our local gems, it’s clear our independent scene is as resilient as it is delicious.
We’re taking a short break to reset (and eat our body weight in roast potatoes), but we’ll be back in your inbox in early January to guide you through all those new 2026 openings. If you've enjoyed reading our updates this year and want to support what we do, you can buy us a coffee here. Every little bit helps us keep spotlighting the city's best indies!
Have a great christmas - eat well, drink local, and we'll see you in the new year!
