New Openings & Recent Reviews

Dim Sum & Cocktails, Books & Wine and Award-Winning Bakeries

Dim Sum & Cocktail Lounge: Bristol's Old City just got a serious upgrade with Eightfold popping up on Small Street. They're serving up delicate dumplings alongside far east-inspired cocktails in a super cosy, mood-lit space. Think truffle siu mai, fluffy bao buns, and smoked old fashioneds. They just had a successful soft launch and are teasing an official grand opening date very soon, complete with a big surprise. It's the perfect spot for late-night chats and high-end pan-Asian opulence.

Brand New Japanese Supermarket: A brand new Japanese supermarket and cafe called Tsubaki has just opened its doors on Merchant Street in Broadmead, taking over the old GAME store next to The Galleries. They are promising a massive selection of Japanese groceries, including sushi and fresh meats, alongside a dedicated seafood counter stocked with lobster, crab, oysters, and scallops. If you need a breather from shopping, their cafe serves up bubble tea, coffee, and bakery treats.

Stokes Croft Books & Wine: A wonderful new independent bookshop and wine cellar is heading to 100 Stokes Croft this May. The BookCellar is taking over the old Snow's Stores building to offer a dreamy mix of carefully chosen books, wine pairings, and speciality coffee. Owners Tom and Claire are creating a dedicated reading room right on the shop floor, so you can settle in with a novel and a glass of great wine without a hint of snobbery.

Three Top 50 UK Bakeries: We all know Bristol's bakery scene is elite, but now it's official. The Good Food Guide just named three of our local favourites in their 50 best UK bakeries for 2026. Give a massive cheer for Hart's Bakery at Temple Meads, Farro on Bond Street, and the roaming pastry legends at Hilda. Whether you're after ancient grain loaves, laminated tarts, or the ultimate train snack, you'll just have to join the queue.

Pitch-Perfect Wapping Wharf Bistro: The folks at Ideal Magazine have just dropped a glowing review for Lapin, the cracking French bistro run out of a Wapping Wharf shipping container. Brought to us by the team behind BANK, this spot opened in April 2025 and has totally figured out how to give a metal box a heartbeat and soul. The review praises their pitch-perfect hospitality and contemporary French cooking. It's an absolute must-visit if you're wandering the harbourside (p.s. it’s also on our food map!😊).

Gluten-Free Bakery Crowdfunder: Creamberry Artisan is hoping to open Bristol's first dedicated gluten-free bakery in Old Market. Founders Özlem and Volkan Abak have spent the last six years baking from their garden annex and building a loyal following at local markets and festivals. Now, they've launched a crowdfunder to move into a permanent spot on West Street that has been empty for over 15 years. They specialise in reimagining international recipes for gluten-free and dairy-free diets, so let’s help them out if we can!

Famous Skillet Cookies On Park St: Hatter House Cafe is expanding again, getting ready to open its third Bristol site right on Park Street. Known for their legendary skillet cookies and excellent coffee, the new spot is moving into the old Q-BBQ unit between Gather and the Last Bookshop. Owners M K and Feras Khoula started on Clare Street in 2019 and are proudly "Born in Bristol", with big plans to keep growing. Branding is already up, so expect doors to open very soon.

Top Hand-Pulled Park Street Noodles: Park Street is getting another tasty addition with Lanzhou Beef Noodles moving into the former Pinkmans bakery site. The bold new signage promises top hand-pulled noodles, hinting at massive bowls of flavourful clear broth, shaved beef, lots of coriander, and deep red chilli oil. It's a globally loved regional speciality, and we can't wait to slurp down a bowl as soon as they open their doors.

New Thai Takeaway Kitchen Opens: If you're craving a quick, high-quality meal, Je Jean's is now open on the junction of Myrtle Road and St Michael's Hill. Officially opened on March 26th, the kitchen is dishing out incredible Thai street food, including chicken and ginger boat noodles, pad thai, and beef massaman.

Local Highlight

L’affinage Du Fromage

If you reckon you love cheese, wait until you meet Louise and Leo - these two were basically destined for fromage greatness from birth. Louise spent her early years on a Gloucestershire dairy farm, sleeping in the exact room where her great, great grandparents aged their cheese, while Leo grew up surrounded by huge cheddars at his parents' restaurant, deli, and cheese stall down in Devon. Now, they run L’affinage Du Fromage at 39 North View in Westbury Park, as well as a popular stall at the Whiteladies Road market every Saturday. They are on a serious mission to make incredible cheese a part of your everyday life, because frankly, life is just too short to eat supermarket cheddar!

Sadly, the shop had a bit of a rough time this past weekend when their front door was smashed in overnight. A few independent spots on North View were targeted, which is always gutting to hear. But Leo and Louise are absolute troopers - Leo was sweeping up glass at 5.30am to make sure they could still open, and the local community has already been dropping off cakes, wine, and flowers to cheer them up. Let's keep that momentum going and show them some proper Bristol support this week by popping in for a wedge or two of something special.

If you fancy making a night of it, you have to check out their tasting evenings. They run two brilliant regular events: ‘POUR’ and ‘PAIR’. ‘POUR’ is a wine-focused night currently celebrating all things Pinot Noir, while ‘PAIR’ is a sell-out masterclass teaching you exactly which cheese matches with each wine. Tickets are £45 and include five outstanding wines and ten exceptional cheeses, plus bread, charcuterie and olives to keep you going. Well worth a look!

That’s it for this week.
