New Openings & Recent Reviews

Good Food Guide Glory, Vietnamese Bites & A New Spot At The Galli

Vietnamese Bites On North Street: Banh-Mi Caphe has just opened its doors at 181 North Street, right opposite the Six Sisters murals. Brought to us by the same family team behind Viet Kitchen (who you might know from Cotham Hill and Stokes Croft), this new south Bristol spot serves up traditional banh-mi sandwiches filled with options like grilled char sui pork, lemongrass chicken, or lemongrass tofu, along with slow drip coffee. Make sure to try their popular blended coconut coffee, served cold with condensed milk and coconut cream for a cacao-like flavour.

Smash Burgers Coming To The Galli: The Gallimaufry on Gloucester Road is welcoming a brand new food takeover starting Friday, August 7th. Chef Jose Ardito will be popping up every Friday and Saturday to serve up killer smash burgers, loaded tacos, and cheesy fries. Exact serving times are still to be confirmed, so keep an eye out on social media.

Grain.Grape Replacing Grounded In Brislington: Following the sudden closure of Grounded back in June, a new sign has popped up on Sandy Park Road for "Grain.Grape Cafe Bar". Run by a local family with years of hospitality experience, the venue aims to bring quality food, drinks, and great coffee to the community. An official opening date hasn't been confirmed yet, but work is underway.

Bristol Spots Shine In Good Food Guide: Bristol had a massive showing in the Good Food Guide's 100 Best Local Restaurants list. Modern Chinese spot Wangs in Montpelier took the top regional spot as Best Restaurant in the South West and came 7th overall in the UK, celebrating their second birthday in style. Meanwhile, Korean neighbourhood favourite Dongnae on Chandos Road made its debut on the list at number 35, and Clifton’s poolside haven Bristol Lido grabbed the 88th spot.

Upcoming Food Events

Food Festivals, DIY Pizza & Pop-Up Tastings

Pizza Workshop (but not Pizza Workshop) at The Yard (22nd July): Pig's Pizzas are taking over The Yard in Thornbury to spill their secret dough tips. For £50 a head, you'll get a couple hours of hands-on practice, access to four different Gozney ovens, as much pizza as you can physically tuck into, and three drinks to wash it down. You'll need to send them a quick DM on Instagram to bag a spot.

Feast On Bristol 2026 (23rd July - 26th July): Bristol's massive food and drink festival is taking over The Downs for four full days. Expect an absolute powerhouse lineup of local favourites including Pasture, Eatchu, Danny's Burgers, COR, Pinkmans, and The Spiny Lobster serving up top dishes alongside local craft drinks. Tickets are already on their final releases for most sessions, so get in quick if you're planning a trip.

Picky Bits with Hector (26th July): Interlude Coffee and Korean spot Dongnae on Chandos Road are throwing the final edition of their Picky Bits series. Hector Browne, head chef over at The Kensington Arms, is taking over the kitchen from 1pm with a brilliant menu of rich snacks and childhood party food remixes. No bookings required, just roll up hungry from 1pm until the food runs out.

Muti Ferments Pop-Up Tasting (1st August): Meanwhile Deli on North Street is hosting a pop-up tasting session with local fermentation legends Muti. Pop down between 11am and 2pm for live ferment tastings, hot sauce pairings, and a chance to chat all things microbes with the experts.

Intimate Lazy Susan Cider Supper (4th August): Lazy Susan is teaming up with natural cider maker Rob Stockley for a three-course supper at Carouse Wines on Oxford Street in Totterdown. Starting at 7pm, expect seasonal dishes served sharing-style, paired with a welcome drink and fresh Stockley releases throughout the evening. Tickets are £60 via Eventbrite, but note they can't cater to dietary requirements due to the small setup.

The Mama Social at Kask (6th August): North Street wine spot Kask is hosting a relaxed social for local mums from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are £19 and cover a welcome drink alongside Kask's signature sharing platter, with options to upgrade to a wine tasting flight on the night.
