Bristol Food Newsletter - Prime by Pasture's Opening, Award-Winning Gelato & June Festivals!

A weekly digest of the city's essential food and drink news.

It feels like summer has finally decided to grace us with its presence, and with the longer, warmer evenings comes a host of new openings and foodie events to get excited about. From a brand-new venture by the team behind Pasture to a celebration of our city's food system, there's plenty to get your teeth into this month.

New & Upcoming Openings

It’s another busy period for Bristol's hospitality scene, with some exciting new additions to the city's culinary map.

  • Prime by Pasture: The highly anticipated new opening from the team behind the much-loved steakhouse, Pasture, is set to open its doors on St Thomas Street in Redcliffe tomorrow, Monday, June 9th. 'Prime by Pasture' will be an all-day dining affair, offering everything from breakfast and coffee to burgers and their signature sticky wings. An on-site butchery and deli will also be a feature, so you can take home some of their top-quality, ethically sourced meat.

  • New Creative Cafe: In a fantastic collaboration of independent Bristol businesses, a new 'creative cafe' has recently opened. While details are still emerging, it promises to be a unique addition to the city's vibrant cafe culture.

  • Kask on Gloucester Road: For fans of natural wine, the news that Kask is opening a second bar on Gloucester Road will be very welcome. Following the success of their North Street venue, expect a carefully curated selection of wines in a relaxed setting.

  • The Bap: A new Korean restaurant, The Bap, has announced it will be opening in Bristol. Having already established themselves in other parts of the country, they are now bringing their Korean flavours to our city.

Bristol Food Events

There's a packed calendar of food-related events happening across Bristol in the coming weeks.

  • Food Justice Fortnight (June 2nd - 15th): Organised by Feeding Bristol, this series of events aims to bring people together to celebrate Bristol's food communities and discuss how we can create a fairer and more resilient food system for all. This year's theme is 'Food and Power', and the fortnight includes a range of workshops, talks, and supper clubs.

  • Bristol Craft Beer Festival (June 13th - 14th): Returning to the Harbourside, this popular festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Expect a huge selection of beers from local and international breweries, alongside street food and live music.

  • Wing Fest (September 5th - 7th): The world's largest chicken wing festival is also set to return to the city this year, taking place at the Amphitheatre.

Local Highlight: Panunzio's Kitchen Gelati Italiani

With the warmer weather upon us, it only seems right to highlight one of Bristol's best spots for a frozen treat. Panunzio's Kitchen Gelati Italiani on Cotham Hill is a must-visit for any gelato lover.

This family-run business has quickly become a local favourite, and for good reason. Daniele and Thary Panunzio have brought authentic Italian gelato to Bristol, made with fresh, local organic milk and cream. Their dedication to quality is evident in every scoop, and they have the awards to prove it, having been crowned the best dessert shop in Bristol.

You can expect to find a wide array of classic and inventive flavours, from a rich and nutty Pistachio to a more unusual Ricotta and Caramelised Fig. They also offer a range of sorbets for those looking for a dairy-free option. It’s not uncommon to see a queue snaking down the street on a sunny day, but trust us, it’s well worth the wait. Daniele is also set to represent the UK in the 'European Masters' of gelato making, a testament to the quality of his craft. So, next time you're in the area, be sure to pop in and try some of the best gelato our city has to offer.
