UK's Best Coffee, A Controversial Pub Refurb & Award-Winning Pickle

Bristol Coffee Shops Hit UK Top 50: Three of our very own coffee spots have made it onto the list of the UK's 50 best coffee shops. If you're a caffeine fiend, you'll be chuffed to hear that Dareshack on Wine Street, Radical Roasters on St Mark's Road in Easton, and Sweven on North Street in Bedminster all made the cut. They were judged on everything from bean quality to barista skills and sustainability. They even have a shot at making the European and global lists next.

Southmead Pub Gets £416k Makeover: It's the end of an era for the Treble Chance in Southmead. Much-loved landlady Lisa Thorne has stepped down after nearly 17 years behind the bar due to rising costs. The brewery is pumping over £400k into the place for a massive refurb and renaming it The Union Arms. It's set to reopen in about six weeks with a new sports area, pool tables, and an outdoor seating bit with TVs. Not all the locals are buzzing about the fancy changes though, as many just loved their proper local exactly how it was.

Gold For GingerBeard's Brinjal Pickle: A huge congratulations to local legends GingerBeard's Preserves. They just bagged both Gold and Category Winner at the National Chilli Awards for their Limited Edition Brinjal Pickle. The judges absolutely loved the deep aroma and warming spices. It's always brilliant seeing Bristol producers get the national recognition they deserve.

Ardito's Kitchen Trailer Grand Opening: There's a brand new food trailer to check out next time you're sinking a pint at Lost and Grounded. Ardito's Kitchen officially launched their new setup, serving up incredible Latin American street food like birria tacos and juicy chimichurri burgers. You can catch them slinging out the goods on Fridays from 5pm to 9pm, Saturdays from 2pm to 9pm, and Sundays from 1pm to 9pm. Nothing beats some proper Latin grub to soak up those delicious local brews.

Local Highlight

Sotiris Greek Bakery

If you're wandering up Park Row and find yourself in need of a proper pick-me-up, look out for a little haven of azure and white. Sotiris Greek Bakery is a traditional coffee shop and bakery that feels like a portal straight to the Aegean, right in the middle of our bustling city. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and honey-drizzled pastries hits you the moment you walk through the door. It's become a firm local favourite for anyone craving an authentic taste of Greece without having to shell out for a plane ticket.

We popped in recently and can completely vouch for their spanakopita and baklava. They are absolutely amazing! The spanakopita is wonderfully flaky and bursting with spinach and feta, while the baklava is delicately layered and perfectly bathed in syrup. They also serve up melt-in-your-mouth loukoumades dusted with cinnamon, savoury koulouri sesame rings, and frothy frappes that'll transport you straight to the vibrant cafes of Athens.

You'll find them at 16 Park Row, Bristol BS1 5LJ. They’re open weekdays from 8am to 5pm, and weekends from 9am to 6pm. Whether you're grabbing a robust Greek coffee before work or settling in for a weekend pastry treat, it's well worth popping your head in.
