New Openings & Recent Reviews

Bookshop Cafes, Award-Winning Pints & National Sauce Praise

Bristol Beer Factory's National Triumph: Southville’s own Bristol Beer Factory has smashed it at the Cambridge Beer Festival, with their absolute classic 'Independence' being named the Champion Beer of Britain 2026. It beat out 11 other top-tier brews to claim the title of the best cask beer in the UK. Massive congratulations to the team; it’s brilliant to see a local favourite get the national recognition it deserves.

Sellanraa Bookshop Cafe Opening: A lovely new spot is coming to Redland by the end of June. Book-loving barista Jackson Jeff is opening Sellanraa at 1B Chandos Road, taking over the cosy unit where Opus Glass Design sat for 30 years. It’s going to be a proper community hub blending a celiac-friendly food menu, coffee from Bedminster’s Boona Boona, and a curated selection of literature from Clifton Village’s Heron Books. Expect a relaxed vibe with stained glass touches and family artwork on the walls.

Bacco Italian Wine Bar: If you love the coffee van in St Andrew’s Park, you’re in luck. Owner Amir Sufiani has just opened Bacco, his first permanent bricks-and-mortar site at 44 Gloucester Road. Located right next to the Post Office on the Raglan Road corner, this new seven-day-a-week joint brings authentic Italian cafe culture to BS7. Stop by from morning through to evening for specialty coffee, fine wines, cicchetti, and Mediterranean-style sharing plates.

The Bristol Cheesemonger Accolade: Our brilliant local cheese experts over on Gloucester Road have been named one of the top ten best cheese shops across the South West by Speciality Food Magazine. Since Oli Smith and Jenny Howell moved the business from Wapping Wharf, they’ve been killing it with tasting events, cider pairings, and direct links to small-scale farmhouse producers. It’s a well-deserved nod for a team keeping our indie food scene so sharp.

Big Nath's BBQ Sauce Praise: Local legend Big Nath's BBQ Sauce has caught the eye of My Weekly magazine. Their sweet and smoky sauce, which already holds a Gold Great British Food Award from 2023, was featured as a must-buy product. At £6.50 a bottle, it’s the ultimate shout for your upcoming summer marinades and glazes.

Local Highlight

The Good Measure

Tucked away in Redland, this independent pub is a massive local favourite, offering a friendly, relaxed vibe with absolutely zero pretension. It's the ideal spot to pitch up for a pint right next to some of the best menus in the city, whether you're killing time before a table booking or wrapping up the night after an amazing meal.

They don't do food or kitchen pop-ups, meaning the entire focus is on a brilliantly curated, rotating line-up of quality beers. You'll regularly find top-tier pours on tap from brilliant local names like Left Handed Giant, Arbor, and Deya, alongside a cracking selection of independent cask ales and crisp ciders. It's a great neighborhood boozer that does the simple things right. Plus, if you're ever over in Redcliffe, they’ve got a brilliant historic sister pub called The King’s Head on Victoria Street that’s well worth a look.
