Trencherman's Best Newcomer Award, Dongnae In UK Top 100 & New Books And Wine Spot
Lapin Crowned Best Newcomer: The beloved Wapping Wharf spot Lapin has officially been crowned Best Newcomer at the 2026 Trencherman's Awards. Tucked away in those iconic Cargo shipping containers, this brilliant spot only opened in April 2025 but is already making massive waves. Owner Dan O'Regan and executive chef Jack Briggs-Horan picked up the award after impressing both public voters and expert judges. If you haven't been down yet, you're missing out on a fresh and playful spin on classic French cooking using the absolute best seasonal produce. You'll want to get a booking in sharpish!
Dongnae Hits UK Top 100: Huge congratulations to Dongnae for landing a spot on the 2026 National Restaurant Awards list of the top 100 best restaurants in the UK. They are totally committed to showcasing authentic Korean cooking while utilising fantastic seasonal British ingredients. It's wonderful to see local talent getting national recognition. The team highlighted how fundamental their hard-working staff is to this success, and we couldn't be happier for them.
Banh Wagon Rolls Into Town: We've been waiting for this one. From the 11th of May, Banh Wagon is officially landing at St Nick's Market right in the Glass Arcade. They are bringing fresh bánh mì and bold flavours out of an actual wagon on wheels. If you've been craving some proper good lunch options in the centre, this is definitely going to be your new favourite spot.
The Library Opens The Archive: Cocktail bar, The Library, has just extended its late-night atmosphere downstairs into a brand new space called The Archive. Open on Fridays and Saturdays, you enter through a hidden bookcase to find an intimate setting filled with candlelight, dark wood, and velvet. You still get the exact same table service, full menu, and stellar cocktails that you'd expect from the main bar upstairs. Walk-ins and bookings are both welcome, making it a perfect weekend hideout.
Books And Wine On Stokes Croft: Keep your eyes peeled for a brand new spot opening up at 100 Stokes Croft around the 8th of May. The BookCellar is teasing a brilliant combination of books and wine, which sounds like an absolute dream for a cosy evening out. They've been busy getting the shelves and wooden counters ready under some lovely brass pendant lights. We can't wait to see the finished space!
Asian & Indian fusion In Brislington: Brislington locals are in for a treat with the arrival of Wok & Spice on Broomhill Road. It's a brand new Asian and Indian fusion takeaway. They are serving up a massive variety of dishes, and they even stock sweet treats from Dudecake for dessert. It's definitely one to check out for your next lazy weekend takeaway night!

Local Highlight
FILTHY XIII

Right in the cultural heart of Stokes Croft, you'll find FILTHY XIII, a cracking cocktail bar that takes its name and ethos from the real Filthy Thirteen. They've been crowned Best Bar in the West for both 2024 and 2025, and bagged the number 29 spot on the top 50 cocktail bars list. They were even up for the CLASS Bar Awards alongside other local favourites like HMSS and Same Again. The service is attentive but informal, so you can easily kick back with a delicate Lychee Martini or a dry Filthy's Martini while nodding along to their throwback hip hop playlist.
If you're after a bargain, you'll want to pop in between 5pm and 8pm for Tappy Hour, where cocktails are just £9. They are open Tuesday to Sunday, and if you fancy a pint instead, they pour local beers from the Lost & Grounded brewery. You definitely won't want to skip the food either, as their kitchen runs daily from 5pm to 10pm serving up some seriously filthy grub. Think proper smash burgers, a banging Truffle Mac hot dog, and tasty bar snacks like Iberico Ham Croquetas or battered Frickles. It's the perfect spot to fill your boots and sink a few fantastic drinks!
