Fresh Feast on Park St, A Hangar Cafe & An Award for L&G

Lost and Grounded Named Among UK’s Best: St Anne’s very own Lost and Grounded has been recognised as one of the top eight breweries in the UK by The Times. Selected by beer writer Pete Brown, the brewery was praised for its inclusive ethos and community spirit - alongside its exceptional Keller Pils and Belgian-style beers. It’s one of only two West Country breweries to make the cut.

The Colombian Company Opening: South Bristol has a new caffeine fix. The Colombian Company has opened its doors in the former Jacobs barber shop on North Street, right next to the Co-op. Founded by Colombian-born Jhampoll Gutierrez Gomez, the cafe serves speciality Colombian coffee and homemade food, adding to their existing portfolio in Bath and Whiteladies Road.

Mokoko at Spitfire Hangar Opening: A significant restoration project in Filton has officially opened to the public. The historic Spitfire Hangar (dating back to 1917) is now home to a new Mokoko bakery and cafe. It’s a vast, atmospheric space serving their signature artisan bakes and coffee, acting as a community hub for the developing Brabazon neighbourhood.

Fresh Feast Opening Soon: New signage has appeared on Park Street for 'Fresh Feast', a modern Chinese fine dining restaurant taking over the former Elbow Room/Marquee bar site. With branches already in Cardiff and London, they specialise in cuisine from the Shandong province. Expect fresh noodles, dim sum, cocktails, and even karaoke when they launch.

Same Again Bristol Opening: A new spot called 'Same Again' is opening its doors imminently at Finzel’s Reach. They are promising a "banging cocktail menu" and perfect pints of Guinness. It officially opens this week, so it’s one to watch if you're after a new watering hole.

Bristol Loaf Heading to Redland: The popular bakery is planning its fourth site. Bristol Loaf has submitted a licensing application for a new cafe at 185 Redland Road (formerly Elworthy office supplies). If approved, they plan to serve from morning until late, bringing their renowned sourdough and pastries to the corner of Coldharbour Road.

18 Tap Takeover, Lunar New Year Lions & A Sicilian Valentines

Wine & Cheese Tasting at KASK (Jan 21st): Fortnightly tastings are back at KASK. The sessions run on Wednesdays at their North Street spot and Thursdays at KASK² on Cheltenham Road. Join them from 7:30pm for five wines paired with cheese, plenty of chat, and absolutely zero pretension.

Burns Night at No.4 Clifton Village (Jan 23rd): If you haven't booked your Burns Night supper yet, No.4 Clifton Village is serving a tasting menu where the pan-seared scallops with whisky sauce are the headline act. You can add a whisky flight to the meal for the full Scottish experience.

The Big Tap Takeover (Jan 30th): The Beer Emporium on King Street is hosting its biggest tap takeover of the year featuring New Bristol Brewery. They will have 18 lines of cask and keg beers pouring, including first pours and freebies, plus tutored tastings with the brewery team from 6:30pm.

Valentine’s Sicilian Menu at Little Hollows (Feb 14th): Little Hollows in Redland is running an extra-special Sicilian-inspired set menu for Valentine’s Day. There will be a pairing wine flight available on the night, with vegetarian and vegan options on offer. Booking is essential.

Lunar New Year at Wai Yee Hong (Feb 21st): The biggest Lunar New Year party in Bristol returns to the Wai Yee Hong Chinese supermarket in Eastville this February. It is free to attend and will feature the traditional lion dances, martial arts performances, and a street food market.

The Big Picnic at Redcatch Park (Jun 27th): One for the diary - Bristol Beer Factory is bringing back the 'Brewed to Give' bar for The Big Picnic in Knowle. It’s a massive free community event celebrating local traders, raising money for the park, and pouring pints with purpose.

Local Highlight

El Diablo

Step into El Diablo and you’re instantly hit with bold colours, buzzing vibes, and the irresistible scent of sizzling tacos. This fiery spot is serving up real-deal Mexican street food, anchored by fresh tortillas made on-site and a dedication to big, punchy flavours.

The menu is designed for sharing, with tacos served in pairs alongside house-made salsas. The Pork Carnitas are a standout, featuring slow-cooked shoulder with garlic, orange, and bay, topped with sweet pickled jalapeños. For seafood lovers, the Governor Prawn combines chilli and garlic fried prawns with melted mozzarella, while the Baja Fish features spiced battered cod with a house Baja sauce. If you're tackling the menu with a group, the Diablo Quesabirria is essential - two 12" grilled tortillas stuffed with beef brisket birria and mozzarella, served with a rich dipping broth.

It's not just about the food, though - the Margs here are serious business. The bar is well-stocked with agave spirits, using Tapatio Blanco as the base for their crisp Classic and Tommy’s margaritas. If you’re after a kick, the Spicy Margarita is spiked with chilli bitters, while the Mezcal Margarita uses Del Maguey Vida for a distinct smoky depth. Even the designated drivers are looked after with a proper 0% Margarita using Almave alcohol-free blue agave spirit. Round off the meal with cinnamon-dusted Churros and their warm spiced chocolate dipping sauce.
